Jamie Dornan has admitted that he didn't have a very good track record with girls when he was at school.

Dornan is set to return to the big screen next year as Christian Grey in the adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey, but he didn't have quite as much luck with the ladies as a teenager.

The actor reveals that his youthful looks were not very appealing to the girls when he was growing up.

Speaking to The Observer magazine, the actor said: "I didn't do particularly well with girls at school. I was always very young looking. And my sister's friends would always say: 'You're so cute.'

"I f**king hated that. If you are a skinny, baby-faced teenager, the last thing you want to hear is that you're cute."

However, things did start to improve for the actor as he got older and began growing facial hair. Now his beard is something that is important to him.

He continued: "I feel uncomfortable without it. I find myself moving differently. I don't like myself without a beard."

Dornan married Amelia Warner last summer, and welcomed their first child - a daughter - in November last year.

Fifty Shades of Grey is set to be the biggest film role of Dornan's film career to date, as he is set to star alongside Dakota Johnson with Sam Taylor-Johnson in the director's chair.
