The celebrity chef - who reached the milestone in May this year - admits he "struggled" reaching four decades so much that he couldn't face having a party until six months after his birthday.

He said: "Now I'm just an embarrassing dad. I don't think that I went into my 40s in a great way. I was in a little bit of denial, I didn't like it too much, I struggled with the party, I did it six months later."

The father of four also revealed he is looking forward to spending Christmas with his family and despite currently lobbying for a 'sugar tax' in the UK, Jamie insists he's letting his children have a few sweets over the festive season.

Speaking on The Jonathan Ross Show, he said: "Absolutely, of course, under lock and key. We're pretty normal honestly.

"Food is obviously a big deal at home, we've always been around it, we get amongst it, I cook everything at home so it's the time of year when you've got friends and family and kids. It's one big dinner party."

The full interview airs on 'The Jonathan Ross Show' on ITV tomorrow evening (19.12.15) at 9.45pm.
