The 49-year-old actress - who become internationally famous through playing Rachel Green in the iconic sitcom - is frustrated by her lack of recent success, and is therefore increasingly open to reprising her most famous on-screen role.

A source told heat magazine: "Jen hasn't had a bona-fide box-office hit for at least five years and it's starting to worry her.

"She's very career driven and has been unhappy with some of the lacklustre projects over the years. Her last big hit, 'We're The Miller', got mediocre reviews and she's been feeling very frustrated with her movie career lately."

The Hollywood star has observed how shows like 'Will & Grace' have recently returned to TV screens, and she's confident that a returning 'Friends' could make a similar impact.

The insider said: "Jen isn't taking any chances and is working on a long-term strategy.

"She feels with all the reunions happening right now, like 'Will & Grace' and 'Roseanne', the 'Friends' cast could have a golden opportunity to come in and blow all of the other shows out of the water. She's seen how well-received the reunions have been and wants a piece of that."

By contrast, Jenifer previously said 'Friends' could never return because of society's reliance on technology.

Recalling a conversation with her former castmates, the actress explained: "We were jokingly saying that if 'Friends' was created today you would have a coffee shop full of people that were just staring into iPhones.

"There would be no actual episodes or conversations."
