Jennifer Lopez says that it is tough being a single parent.

Lopez has six year old twins Max and Emme with Marc Antony, with whom she split back in 2011.

And Lopez believes that it is easier if children are raised in a two parent family.

Speaking to Gala magazine, the singer said: "In the same way that two people are needed to create a child, is also easier to educate them if there are two.

"When you are a single mum, the only positive thing is that your children are all for you."

However, Lopez does understand how her children feel as her parents also divorced. And she reassures her kids that their father still loves them.

She continued: "When the twins cry because their father isn't with them, I always say to them that mine isn't with me either but that doesn't stop me feeling his love."

Lopez and Anthony started dating back in 2004, and were married that same year.

The couple announced that they were pregnant at the end of 2007, and Max and Emme were born in February 2008.

The twins saw Lopez become a mother for the first time, while Anthony had children from previous relationships.

The couple announced their separation in 2011, and the divorce was finalised back in the summer.
