The 'On the Floor' hitmaker was delighted to take to the stage at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles as she revealed the annual ceremony was one of her inspirations to pursue a career in performing.

Recalling how she was inspired by past performances from the likes of musical icons such as Prince, Madonna and the late Whitney Houston and Michael Jackson, she said: "This show truly inspired me and made me dream someday I would be one of the lucky ones who would perform on this stage for fans of music everywhere.

"That's why we all do this: to touch your hearts and give joy to you with our music. My dream has come true."

The 46-year-old star donned a sequinned bodysuit to open the show with a slowed-down version of her 1999 hit 'Waiting For Tonight' but insisted she wasn't looking for applause.

She said: "Wait, don't clap. Tonight's not about me. Tonight is about the music!"

And Jennifer then launched into a dance party, asking the audience: "This year's music makes me want to dance: Do ya'll wanna dance with me? This is a party. Let's dance!"

She was then joined by an array of dancers as a medley of the year's biggest songs, including Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars' 'Uptown Funk', Taylor Swift's Bad Blood' and Drake's 'Hotline Bling' were played.

The impressive display ended when bills rained from the ceiling, instead of confetti as Rihanna's 'Bitch Better Have My Money' played.

And one person who was very impressed by Jennifer was her ex-boyfriend, Diddy.

The rap mogul - who dated the 'American Idol' judge from 1999 to 2001 - took to the stage to present the Collaboration of the Year prize and said: "Can we give it up for Jennifer Lopez one time?"
