Joan Rivers is reportedly "on the road to recovery."

The 81-year-old comedienne, who is still on life support after being placed in a medically-induced coma after she went into cardiac arrest and stopped breathing during minor throat surgery last Thursday (28.08.14), is said to be making small improvements at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, despite rumours she may never recover.

A source told E! News: "It's a slow process, but she's on the road to recovery. She's getting better. Don't believe all this ridiculous speculation."

The 'Fashion Police' host's daughter Melissa Rivers is determined to stay positive, as she maintains a bedside vigil for her mother.

The insider said: "She is a rock. She is calmer than I've ever seen her.

"All these reports about doomsday are not true. She is her mother's daughter and she's tough as nails. She's the person keeping everyone together."

Sources previously suggested Melissa, 46, was "in denial" about the severity of her mother's condition and doctors believed the controversial star may end up "as a vegetable" or "needing a wheelchair."

Producer Melissa caught a flight to New York as soon as she was informed of Joan's health scare.

She updated NBC News on Joan's condition today (02.09.14), confirming "at this time she does remain on life support."

She added: "On behalf of my mother and our family, we are extremely grateful for all the love and support we've received. I know my mother would be overwhelmed by the continued outpouring of kindness and I want to thank everyone for keeping us in their prayers."

Meanwhile, production on two 'Fashion Police' episodes has been halted.

A spokesperson for E! said: "We will not be producing a Fashion Police this week or next as we await Joan and Melissa's return in front and behind the camera. E! will be airing two E! From Fashion Week specials that will deliver the latest news and information from the highly-anticipated event."
