The 'Mortdecai' actor reportedly decided to take the injured creature under his wing after it was found close to the set of 'Pirates of the Caribbean 5: Dead Men Tell No Tales', which he is currently filming in Australia.

The 51-year-old actor offered to pay for the bat's medical care after it was rescued by the The Australian Bat Clinic and named Jacki Sparrow after Jonny's character Jack Sparrow in the pirate movie franchise.

The Bat Clinic's director Trish Wimberley told Daily Mail Australia: "He was very interested in it (Jacki Sparrow) and so we asked if Johnny would like to sponsor her, because we do sponsor little babies and he said yes.

"We're going to be sending Johnny an adoption certificate and little update photos, which is what we normally do with our sponsors."

The Golden Globe-winner is incredibly fond of his pets and could be facing jail time after illegally bringing his two dogs in to the country.

Johnny landed in hot water earlier this month after flying Down Under on a private jet with his Yorkshire Terriers, Pistol and Boo, breaking the country's strict quarantine laws.

An Australian Senate committee has since been told that it the matter goes to court and the star is found guilty, he could face up to 10 years in jail or a maximum fine of $265,000.

The pups were promptly flown back out of the country after the Australian Minister for Agriculture, Barnaby Joyce, threatened to have the Yorkies euthanized.
