Katie Holmes has bought a new mansion in Los Angeles in the hope of boosting her Hollywood career and improving her daughter's upbringing.

Katie Holmes has moved back to Los Angeles

The 35-year-old actress splashed out a reported $3,795,000 on a new mansion in Thousand Oaks after deciding to swap her life in New York for the West Coast in the hope of boosting her Hollywood career.

The former 'Dawson's Creek' star also believes the move will benefit her eight-year-old daughter Suri's upbringing as the affluent cul-de-sac is populated by lots of children around the same age as the youngster, whom she has with her ex-husband Tom Cruise.

However, Katie was keen to keep her house-moving project under wraps and even had a confidentiality agreement written up, which would see anyone who violated the contract slapped with a $1 million penalty, according to gossip website TMZ.com.

Meanwhile, it is believed Katie and her daughter will welcome a new addition into their new home in coming weeks as Suri and her bodyguard were spotted picking out a chihuahua, which she named Maple, at a San Fernando Valley rescue shelter last month.

Suri didn't take the tiny pooch home with her at the time as she and Katie didn't move into their new property until last week.
