The comedy, which was backed by NBC and Ellen Degeneres, has been cancelled due to poor ratings of just three million and receiving harsh criticism from viewers.

One episode of the show saw the British beauty marry her lesbian friend, only drew in 2.92 million viewers.

A spokesperson for NBC said: "The show 'One Big Happy' is just not coming back. There is no more to say."

While another US TV source added: "'One Big Happy' was a laughing stock and a huge network flop."

NBC were said to be nervous about axing the series because they would be delivering a huge "snub" to their star Ellen.

A source told The Daily Mirror newspaper: "NBC made a point of not leaking the news to prevent the culling being such big news. It is a huge snub to Ellen and also given the marketing budget for the show makes many top brass look stupid."

The source added: "When a show is barely getting three million fans after so much hype, everyone knew it was done for. Kelly may have been playing the media and PR game well for them, but in truth the writing and humor was stuck in the 1970s.

"It now means that her dream of US stardom is short-lived, and she will be without a show."

Kelly, 35 had been busy promoting the show across the States, for the past three months and was hoping being on prime-time television would kick-start her TV career across the Atlantic.

However, after just six episodes her US acting career looks to be over before it began.

This is another blow for the busty brunette, who has struggled with acting flops in the past.
