The Atomic Kitten singer recently called time on her marriage to George Kay - who was charged with assault by beating and unlawful possession of a stun gun last month - and is in mourning but feels responsible for the end of their union.

She said: "I am heartbroken... George was with me 24/7. It's like somebody has died. He was my best friend.

"I just feel like there's been a death and I feel like it's my fault. Like I've done something wrong."

The 35-year-old star - who has kids Molly, 14, Lilly, 12, Heidi, eight, and Max, seven, from past relationships and 19-month-old Dylan-Jorge with George - will "always love" her estranged husband but thinks it's for the best their marriage is over.

She said: "I think there will always be a part of me that will love George. I think the hardest thing is walking away from somebody you love so much, but it's the right thing to do...

"I have worked hard to get my life back on track. I really wanted our marriage to work. I miss him every day but I know it's not healthy."

The 'Whole Again' singer feels "embarrassed and ashamed" at the end of her marriage and is particularly uncomfortable that it has been so public.

She told the new issue of OK! magazine: "I feel completely embarrassed and ashamed.

"It's so hard. I just wanted the marriage to work...

"I wish it wasn't so public. I know I'm sat here doing an interview but I wish it wasn't so out in the open."
