George Kay, who was arrested following an alleged bust-up with the singer last year, stood before a judge at Hove Crown Court in East Sussex today (11.01.16) and pleaded not guilty to charges of assault and possession of a banned weapon.

The labourer, from Warrington in Cheshire, was released on bail on the conditions that he doesn't contact Kerry - except via an agreed third party - and does not enter her home town of Crowborough, where the alleged assault took place.

But it seemed George wasn't completely happy with the conditions as it meant he couldn't get his hair cut.

Asked whether he could go to the small town in East Sussex to smarten up his 'do, Judge David Rennie replied: "No, that's slightly daft. You can get your hair cut somewhere else."

George, 35, will stand trial at Brighton, Hove or Lewes Crown Court for up to three days from April 25, and Kerry, 35, who married the sportsman in 2014, is likely to give evidence in the case, according to the Daily Mirror newspaper.

George was arrested on October 3 last year after the former Atomic Kitten allegedly sustained bruises to her face following a row at their home in Crowborough, East Sussex.

He was later charged with assault by beating and unlawful possession of a stun gun disguised as a torch.

A few days after the incident, Kerry, announced her decision to divorce George, with whom she has 19-month-old daughter Dylan, following just 11 months of marriage.

Kerry also has children Molly, 14, and Lilly-Sue, 12, with former Westlife star Brian McFadden, and Heidi, eight, and Max, seven, with ex-husband Mark Croft
