The 34-year-old reality star and her husband Kanye West had 22-month-old North welcomed into the Christian faith at a 12th-century Armenian Apostolic Church in Jerusalem earlier this month and the couple are "thankful" they could undertake the ceremony in the sacred city.

Kim told People magazine: "It was such a beautiful experience for my family to have North baptised in Jerusalem. Kanye and I are so thankful."

Kim had the idea to have North baptised in Jerusalem while planning her family trip to visit her homeland of Armenia.

Joining the trio at the ceremony was the 'Keeping Up with the Kardashians' star's sister Khloe, who has been named as North's godmother.

An insider told the publication the former 'X Factor' host was chosen because of the "very special bond" she shared with the little girl.

The ceremony was performed by Armenian priests in both Armenian and English and the couple were delighted with the hour-long service.

A source said: "[Kim and Kanye felt] having their daughter baptised there was such an incredible energy.

"They were so happy and at peace in Jerusalem."

However, during the service, North - who was presented with a cross afterwards - felt so comfortable, she fell asleep in her mother's arms.
