The former 'Friends' actor - who will portray the late defence attorney in 'American Crime Story: The People V OJ Simpson', about the murder trial of his client O.J. Simpson, who was accused of killing his ex-wife Nicole Brown and Ronald Goldman in 1995 - says the 'Keeping Up with the Kardashians' star was "very generous" when he approached her to find out more about her ex-husband, who died in 2003 after battling esophageal cancer.

The 48-year-old star said: "I was lucky enough to speak with Kris for a few hours [on the phone].

"She was very generous with her time, just telling me about who Robert was."

It was previously announced Selma Blair will play Kris, 59, in the upcoming series, which will also star John Travolta and Cuba Gooding Jr.

Asked if the reality TV star had an input in the casting, David told E! News: "I highly doubt it, but she was very generous of her time and spoke very highly of Robert...I'm excited to explore that relationship with Selma. She's fantastic.

"I was lucky enough to read the first two scripts and they were so well written and compelling.

"I'm excited to be apart of it really. Mostly it's quite a human and tragic story."
