The 61-year-old matriarch is considering splashing out on seats on Richard Branson's Virgin Galactic's commercial space flight in order to take the show to new grounds.

A source said: "Kris is fascinated by outer space and is looking into paying for her and the family to be among the first passengers on Virgin's commercial space shuttle.

"Kris just signed a 150m deal that will keep their reality show on the air until the end of 2019. The pressure is on to keep things exciting and what better way than by filming an episode in space?

"They'd be the first family to orbit the planet, and Kris is convinced she's hit on the ultimate storyline."

A huge host of top stars have already splashed out for seats on the first space flight, but Kris is reportedly determined her family will get a special trip before the official launch.

The source said: "There's big competition in Hollywood to be the first celebrity in space.

"A-listers such as Leonardo DiCaprio and Angelina Jolie have apparently already pre-purchased their tickets with Virgin Galactic.

"Kris knows Richard Branson personally and she's been pressuring him to agree to make a special trip just for her family.

"It's definitely an ambitious ask, but it's not like Kris isn't willing to pay for it."

However, the business mogul's space programme is already hugely behind and it may not be ready in time for the show's deadlines.

The insider added to heat magazine: "At this point the only issue is Richard and the space programme. He's already three years behind launching the first civilian trip and there are still problems to address.

"He says it will happen by the end of next year - and the Kardashians could be first on the passenger list."
