The 'Boss' actress doesn't usually allow Lincoln, two, and 16-month-old Delta - her children with husband Dax Shephard - too much sugar because it makes them "insane" but will bend her rules with her vegetable-filled treats if she needs them to "co-operate".
She said: "We don't do a lot of sugar in my house because my kids are insane on sugar and I don't want to deal with it.
"I make a lot of zucchini muffins, and it's sad, but true, zucchini muffins are my bargaining chip, for both my girls. They are the currency of the household.
"I feel good about it because I'm slopping in some vegetables. But there's brown sugar and they're delicious ... It's how I get them to co-operate."
The 35-year-old actress wants to be a friend to her kids, but also sets boundaries so they know she is also their mother.
She added in an interview with Us Weekly magazine: "I think your kid can have an infinite amount of friends, but they can only have two parents ever.
"So as much as it's important for me to be friends with my girls, it's also important for me to be their mom."
