Miley Cyrus says Demi Moore helped her to grow up.

The 'Wrecking Ball' hitmaker, who confirmed last week that she and Liam Hemsworth have called off their engagement, is happy she was able to support the 50-year-old actress on the set of their movie 'LOL' in Detroit last year, shortly after Demi's sudden split from Ashton Kutcher after six years of marriage in November 2011.

The 20-year-old singer told Rolling Stone magazine: "That was dope, because I think we needed each other at that point. We both needed to get out of L.A."

Miley claims that Demi in turn helped her to grow up and move on from her 'Hannah Montana' past.

She added: "Detroit's where I felt like I really grew up. It was only for a summer, but that's where I started going to clubs, where I got my first tattoo. Well, not my first tattoo, but my first without my mom's consent. I got it on 8 Mile! I lied to the guy and told him I was 18. I got a heart on my finger and wore a Band-Aid for two months so my mom wouldn't find out."

But Miley admits her ex-fiance Liam, 23, was the person who supported her when she was going through her biggest transformation last summer after she moved to Philadelphia with him to film his movie 'Paranoia'.

She said: "Best summer ever.

"I basically cut off all ties. I got rid of my manager, I got rid of my label. I just started over. I really wanted to stay with my manager, but I feel like this [reinvention] would have scared them. I just don't think they would've had as much faith in what I'm doing."

"I hung out with way too many adults when I was a kid. So now I don't want to hang out with any adults. I've already done all the hard work. Now I can kind of f**k off."
