The 'Independence Day: Resurgence' actor has embraced a plant-based diet, both for health reasons and because of his love of animals, and although he isn't missing meat, he finds himself longing for dairy.

He said: "I never get cravings for meat. The less I eat meat, the harder it is to imagine eating it. I get cravings for cheese though.

"Every time I'd go to New York, one of my favourite things to do was to go and eat pizza. I've had cheese pizza, like, once in the past four months.

"It was in New York and it was in the first few weeks of being vegan. I was with some friends and we'd had a couple of beers - you walk around and there's pizza everywhere and it's like, 'Ah God, I've gotta have a slice.'"

And the 26-year-old actor's strict diet meant he was "forced" to cook for himself a lot while away shooting the 'Independence Day' sequel.

He said: "I do like to cook. I was actually forced to cook a lot more food for myself in New Mexico because you can't really find vegan restaurants there. I did a lot of cooking in high school - I really enjoy it.

"I cook a lot of beans and rice and sweet potatoes and lentils... just the sort of stuff where you can cook a lot of it and throw it in the fridge."

Liam's new dietary regime has even inspired his older brother, Chris Hemsworth, to make changes to his own eating habits.

Liam told Men's Fitness: "Chris is obviously extremely healthy and he's played Thor and has had to work out a lot over the past few years.

"But he has a lot of digestive issues, and he's constantly trying to figure out what's best for his system.

"Through talking to me, he's somewhat adapting, I think, to eating more vegetables and more plant-based stuff."
