The 'Mean Girls' star wishes she took a breath when she was younger rather than trying to keep up with the fast pace of the showbiz industry.

Asked what lessons she has learned from her earlier years on The View, she said: "Everything moves so fast when you're in the industry and people grow up so quickly with it. And I think you just always have to remember to slow down and to really just sit and look at what you have and where you want to go with that because the pace goes so fast in the Hollywood industry. "Like my mother always told me to come home and I never listened. I should have come home to New York but I was staying in Los Angeles. You just have to really take your time with things and figure what makes you happy at the end of the day but it's not always the materialistic things that are going to be there for you in the end."

It comes after the 30-year-old actress decided to quit social media as a symbol of her "letting go of the past".

She said: "It was symbolic to me of letting the past go and moving on to the future, which was very therapeutic for me. It's been a long time coming.

"There was not an exact moment. However, there comes a time in one's life where you stop and reflect on all of the experiences you have had, for me it happened when I turned 30 and realised there is more in giving back in life. That is what will make you truly happy ...

"[Social media] has benefits such as connecting you to loved ones and old friends, and then it has negatives of possibly being too connected to everyone. It is the world that we live in - just depends how the person decides to utilise it."
