Mariah Carey doesn't believe she deserves the "Queen of Christmas" title.

The 47-year-old singer was bestowed the honour by her legion of fans due to the popularity of her 1994 hit festive single 'All I Want For Christmas Is You', which she wrote and produced with Walter Afanasieff.

But the music icon disagrees with the name given to her, because although she does have an "extraordinary love" for the holiday season, she thinks being made the "Queen of Christmas" is "too much".

When asked about the title, she said: "I don't accept that name because I feel like it's [too much]. I humbly thank them and I do have an extraordinary love for the holiday season, and it is the best time of the year."

Despite thinking she isn't deserving of the name, Mariah - who has six-year-old twins Moroccan and Monroe with her former husband Nick Cannon - recently released an animated movie with the same title as her hit festive single, and is set to embark on a Christmas themed tour this month, although the first few dates have been cancelled after she contracted a respiratory infection.

Christmas is Mariah's favourite time of the year, and she admits she spends "all year" waiting to decorate her home for the season.

She told People magazine: "All year long I just wait and I look forward to cooking and just like decorating the Christmas tree. I have a few different Christmas trees, and we decorate some of them and some of them there's a lady that helps us with that, and then there's one that the kids and I do together with my extended family and friends."

Meanwhile, Mariah recently revealed she is "surprised" by how successful her Christmas single has been.

Asked if she knew the hit would bring her so much success and revenue, she said: "Oh my gosh, no no, never, no. I feel like this is something small compared to the rest of my catalogue. This song just continues to surprise me."
