The 'Hero' singer recently claimed she "doesn't know" who the 'Waiting for Tonight' hitmaker is, in an echo of comments she originally made 10 years ago, but her chart rival insisted they had met "many times" and Mariah must just be "forgetful".

However, the 46-year-old singer insists her remarks were misunderstood and shouldn't have turned into a "big deal", though she admitted she'll never be "best friends" with the 'Made in Manhattan' star.

Speaking on 'Watch What Happens Live', she said: "That was so long ago, I can't believe people make such a big deal out of it."

When asked if they know each other, she said "no" and added: "You know what? I'm very forgetful. Apparently, I'm forgetful because I don't remember the fact that it was just like, 'Hi, I'm so and so. And then move on, and then 'Hi' and that's it. If I had never had a conversation with you and someone asked me about you I'd be like 'I don't know him but he seems cool' or 'I don't know him'."

But Mariah's silence spoke volumes when she was asked if she thought J.Lo "seemed cool".

She paused then replied: "I don't know her, what am I supposed to say? I'm not going to put on a thing going 'Oh we're all Hollywood and let's just pretend we're all best friends because we're in that land. It's no offense to anybody, it's just like the question was about Beyonce and I was saying 'She's super talented, she's a friend of mine, she's always been sweet to me, we've always been very cool'. And then they asked me another question and I was like 'I don't really know her', it wasn't like 'I don't know who she is', of course I do. That wasn't the question."

And the 'Fantasy' hitmaker - who had insisted on sitting in host Andy Cohen's chair because it showed off her "good side" - also blasted Nicki Minaj, who she famously had a frosty relationship with when they appeared on the 'American Idol' judging panel in 2013.

Asked to reveal "three nice things" about the 'Starships' hitmaker, she paused before turning the question on the presenter, replying simply "Can you?"

Mariah - who is engaged to James Packer and has five-year-old twins Moroccan and Monroe with ex-husband Nick Cannon - was not part of the 'American Idol' finale when it ended for good last month, and joked she was "heartbroken" not to be involved.

She said: "I was heartbroken. I was in misery, no really, I was at home crying."
