The 42-year-old singer - whose full name is Melanie Brown - is embroiled in a lengthy court battle with her estranged husband Stephen Belafonte after allegations surfaced her estranged husband was abusive to her and enjoyed an affair with their nanny Lorraine Giles.

The Spice Girls band member has since requested for the court documents to remain private to prevent her children - Phoenix, 18, Angel, 10, and Madison, six - from being upset, but she hopes the outcome will "show the truth" behind her relationship with the 42-year-old producer.

Speaking in a statement to ET Online, the 'Wannabe' hitmaker said: "I have remained silent these past six months for the sake of my children. I refuse to be a victim any longer and trust the legal process to show the truth."

This news comes after allegations were made that the 'America's Got Talent' judge had suffered from drug and alcohol abuse, which Stephen has claimed was what destroyed their 10-year marriage.

Mel filed for a divorce in March this year, which saw arrangements put in place to allow Stephen the opportunity to visit Angel - who is the daughter of actor Eddie Murphy - and Madison but only with intermediary Dr Charles Sophie present.

Stephen has revealed he only agreed to stepparent visitation so Angel doesn't think he has "abandoned her" as he fears he will "lose" the chance to continue raising her.

The court papers read: "My intent and the purpose behind my request for stepparent visitation with Angel is to ensure that Angel is alright and knows that I have not abandoned her. I miss Angel dearly, and I can assure that Angel misses me, and I do not want to lose the opportunity to spend quality time with her and continue to raise her."

However, Stephen doesn't need to fear as it has been reported Angel regards Stephen as her father.

The documents read: "Angel has called Respondent 'dad' since Angel began to speak."
