The 'Working Girl' actress - who was married to Don Johnson for six months in 1976 and again from 1989 to 1996, wed Steven Bauer in 1982 and split five years later, and finalised her divorce from Antonio Banderas after 18 years of marriage last December - insists the institution is "archaic" and she doesn't think it makes sense to exchange vows anymore.

She told the New York Daily News newspaper's Confidenti@l column: "Don't get married. That would be my advice. There's no need.

"You either go through the whole bulls**t of pre-nuptial, or if you want to get divorced and you don't have a pre-nuptial, then you wish you had a pre-nuptial.

"Marriage seems archaic to me."

The 58-year-old actress - who has one child from each of her marriages - insists she isn't against serious relationships or cohabitation, but thinks marriage is pointless.

She added: "You don't need to get married to have a child anymore.

"It's not like there's a stigma on a child and getting married.

Melanie joined Don at the premiere of their daughter Dakota Johnson's new movie 'How to be Single' in New York last night (03.02.16) and couldn't be more proud of the actress.

She said: "I'm so proud of her. I didn't expect anything else from her."
