Producer Melissa Rivers has reportedly agreed to take over as moderator of the panel when the sartorial show returns to E! and sees it as a "tribute" to her late mother, who died from complications from surgery last September.

A source said: "Melissa's going on. She is so happy, she is excited. The idea actually came from her. The bosses like it. It'll be a tribute to her mom, and Melissa's the one who understands how it's done. She can pull it off."

A six-episode run of the show will begin taping on August 31, though it is not yet clear when they will air.

Following the departures of Kelly Osbourne - who clashed with presenter Giuliana Rancic over comments made about Zendaya Coleman - and Kathy Griffin, Melissa will be joined by a different panel of celebrity guests every week.

The source added to the New York Daily News newspaper's Confidenti@l column: "They will rotate celebs every episode.

"They are talking to Wendy Williams and they really want her. Melissa loves her and Wendy is very interested."

It is not yet clear whether Melissa - who is currently an executive producer on the programme - will stay in front of the camera for longer than six episodes as show bosses want to review the ratings before making a final decision.

And according to the insider, the returning show will have a makeover, taking place on an updated set.
