The 55-year-old actor, who is best known for his starring role in the 'Back to the Future' franchise, has decided to put the property he and his wife Tracy Pollan built in 1997 up for sale, despite previously describing it as his "fantasy" and "the best therapy possible".

The spectacular-looking estate in Sharon, Connecticut, boasts five bedrooms and is situated next door to Tracy's parents and her brother.

The decision to sell the property comes as something of a surprise too, as Michael has previously spoken of how much he has loved spending time there.

Reflecting on what he likes about the property, he said: "The word that comes to mind - not to sound pretentious - is honest.

"Though there are things in the house that are purely for the eye, that please us - I have an affection for folk art, though not to excess - everything has a purpose.

"There's no hyperbole, nothing that's there for its own sake, which creates a flow that's relaxing and easy."

Michael, who has four children - Sam, 27, twins Schuyler and Aquinnah, 21, and 14-year-old Esme - also previously said the property was where he went when he wanted to escape his everyday stresses.

He explained: "It's a fantasy, a place we go to on weekends where everything else falls away.

"To have the project realised the way it was is a real luxury."

Michael was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 1991, at age 29, and said the house has provided him with a "wonderful escape".

He shared: "A lot of people working on it didn't know about my health ... yet they created for me the best therapy possible: this wonderful escape where I can be with my family."
