Michael J Fox has filed a lawsuit against a medical research laboratory.

The star was diagnosed in 1991 with Parkinson's Disease and his eponymous foundation are now suing New Jersey lab Coriell Institute for Medical Research, as they're claimed to have mishandled around 25,000 study samples, destroying years of progress in Parkinson's research.

The lawsuit claims that the company failed to store properly samples after an employee left a freezer door open, thawing the medical specimans and making them unsuitable for testing.

The organisation claim that over $3.5 million of research material has been ruined, setting back their five-year project.

Michael has in the past claimed the disorder has "enriched" his life because he had to step back and realise and appreciate exactly what was important.

"If I didn't have Parkinson's then my life would have been more of the same - acting, travelling and being away from my family.

"My illness forced me to spend time with my family, to work on my foundation, and my life is so much richer because of it. It's altered my reality is such a positive way."
