The 50-year-old Australian actress is thankful she had it pressed on her from a young age that it was important to protect her skin from the sun's harmful rays because she thinks her porcelain complexion would be much more damaged now if she hadn't heeded the advice.

She said: "Because I'm so fair, I'm so religious about wearing sunscreen.

"It's just how I was raised, and it's why my skin now is, I think, far less damaged than it could have been. Because I still go to the beach, it's not that I don't go to the beach, and it's not that I'm not outside.

"I was forced to wear the white zinc on my nose as a kid at the beach."

And the 'Killing of a Sacred Deer' actress also shared some more important beauty advice she'd received when she was younger.

She said: "At night I always take off my makeup. I got that from my mom."

Neutrogena consultant and dermatologist Dr. Dhaval Bhanusali agreed the tip was very "important" for good skin.

He said: "Nicole's tip on removing make-up is perhaps one of the most important things once can do for their skin health.

"Make-up is notorious for clogging pores and causing breakouts."

However, both Nicole and the doctor warned good skin takes more than just a "quick fix", and praised the benefits of retinol, a topical version of Vitamin A which enhances skin texture and tone by fighting wrinkle formation, pigmentation and scars.

Speaking at a skincare event in West Hollywood hosted by Nutrogena, Nicole said: "I believe in retinol, I do think it works. It's been scientifically proven, so Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair Regenerating Cream is good for me."

The skincare expert praised the 'Big Little Lies' actress for her knowledge of keeping her complexion clear and healthy.

According to HauteLiving.com, he said: "It was such a pleasure to host an event alongside someone so talented, and am thankful hearing she is also such a big advocate on skin health and sun protection!"
