The 62-year-old media mogul's self-titled programme - which was the highest-rated show of its kind - would have celebrated 30 years on screen this September, but she walked away in 2011 to establish her OWN TV network and has no regrets about her decision as she always wanted to go out on a high.

She said: "I never wanted to be the person for whom people were saying, 'Oh that show was so good two years ago.'

"I never wanted to be the person who [was told], 'You should've gotten out of the ring before you got punched stronger'.

"I never wanted to be the person who didn't know when to exit the party."

And Oprah - who has been in a relationship with Stedman Graham since 1986 - loves the fact she still has the opportunity to "tell stories", albeit in differing formats.

She added to 'Entertainment Tonight': "It was the most glorious, most amazing platform anybody can have to speak to millions of people every day and I think I exited in the exact right moment.

"So now I get to tell stories in a different way."

Meanwhile, Oprah is working hard to lose weight and is pleased with her results so far, opting for a slow and steady approach to shedding the pounds rather than a dramatic transformation.

She said: "I'm still on [the Weight Watchers eating plan]. I'm counting the points every day and slowly it's happening. I love it."

But the TV icon would rather monitor her weight through shopping, instead of stepping on a scale.

She added: "It's a feeling where you get to the point where [you think], 'Oh I can go to the store, I can pick that size, it's available, I don't have to like have it altered and all that stuff.' So I'll know when I'm there."
