Paris Hilton hit out at a hoaxer who created a tweet pretending she had got the late Nelson Mandela confused with Martin Luther King.

The 32-year-old star slammed the "stupid fake tweet", which was disguised to look as though it had been written from her official Twitter account and alleged the blonde heiress thought the former South African President, who died last night (05.12.13) aged 95, was behind the 'I Have a Dream' speech made famous by the Civil Rights Movement leader.

The fake tweet, which was retweeted by several Twitter users, read: "RIP Nelson Mandela. Your 'I Have A Dream' speech was so inspiring. An Amazing man.(sic)"

After being inundated with messages of abuse online over the made up tweet, Paris hit back: "Whoever made that stupid fake tweet lacks respect to the loss the world is mourning right now. Same goes for all the blogs who ran with it."

Paris Hilton slammed a Twitter hoaxer who made up a tweet pretending she had got the late Nelson Mandela, who died last night (05.12.13), confused with Martin Luther King.

Shortly beforehand, Paris had tweeted a real tribute to the late anti-apartheid revolutionary, who died peacefully at his home in Johannesburg, South Africa.

She wrote: "Just landed & heard the sad new about Nelson Mandela. He was a true Hero & the world is a better place because of him. May he rest in peace. (sic)"

Several Twitter users were also slammed last night after they used a picture of actor Morgan Freeman in tweets paying tribute to Mandela.

The 76-year-old star, who is very much alive, began trending on Twitter as a result of the error, and some reacted in disbelief at the mistake.

One Twitter user wrote: "I honestly believe some of you think Nelson Mandela and Morgan Freeman are the same person"

However, others reacted with frustration and suggested some people were deliberately making the mistake.

One tweet read: "#RIPNelsonMandela it's not even funny that people are tweeting pictures of Morgan Freeman, idiots (sic)"

Another said: "People are posting RIP photos of Morgan Freeman instead of Nelson Mandela in case you're wondering what kind of idiots are out there."
