The One Direction star has been released on bail after an altercation with a paparazzo and two girls at Los Angeles International Airport on Friday (03.03.17), and the Little Mix singer - who was previously engaged to Louis' former band mate Zayn Malik - has defended him for simply "protecting his girlfriend" Eleanor Calder.

Perrie, 23, said: "It's a hard situation because you don't know how you would act unless you're in that situation, but Louis is such a nice guy.

"When you watch the video, all he's doing is protecting his girlfriend like any normal guy would, but because he's in what was one of the biggest bands in the world people are just going to be constantly on him, which I think is unfair for him and Eleanor."

Meanwhile Perrie's fellow band mate Jesy Nelson, 25, said it's often hard for celebrities as people "forget" they're just normal people.

The 'Touch' singer added in an interview with Canadian television show 'etalk': "I just think that sometimes people can forget that you're a human being. Like, they get so caught up in the fact that they see you on TV and it's not real life to them."

Louis, also 25, was arrested and booked for simple battery, and was originally released on $20.000 bail.

However, Louis won't have to pay the sum unless he fails to attend court in Los Angeles on March 29.

Meanwhile, Martin Singer, Louis' lawyer, has insisted the singer was not to blame for the altercation taking place.

He said: "The paparazzi provoked and caused the altercation that occurred with Louis. It's not the first time that a paparazzi has created an altercation with a celebrity.

"While the altercation was going on with the paparazzi, three other individuals were attacking his girlfriend during this incident and he came to her defence."
