The pair starred together in TV series 'Remington Steele' - which ran from 1982 to 1987 and following 90-year-old Doris' death over the weekend, Pierce took to social media to share his sadness at her passing.

He wrote on Instagram: "my dear Doris, I am so very saddened to hear the news of your passing, I loved you Doris, we had so many good laughs together, and you always knew where the laughs were, you never forgot the audience...my heartfelt love and condolences go out to your family... You will be missed by many, forever and the day, but your work shall live on. Love life and laughs ...God bless (sic)."

Earlier Doris' 'Everybody Loves Raymond' co-star Ray Romano was full of praise for the late actress' work ethic following her passing, admitting he will miss the star, who portrayed his on-screen mother Marie Barone,"dearly".

He told PEOPLE: "Doris Roberts had an energy and a spirit that amazed me. She never stopped.

"Whether working professionally or with her many charities, or just nurturing and mentoring a young, green comic trying to make it as an actor, she did it all with such a grand love for life and people and I will miss her dearly."

Doris is survived by her son Michael Cannata Jr, from her first marriage to Michael Cannata, which ended in divorce in 1962, and her three grandchildren.
