Robert Downey Jr. has given Susan Downey permission to "scratch" his face during labour.

Robert Downey Jr. have given his pregnant wife, Susan Downey, permission to scratch his face and yell at him when she is giving birth to their daughter next month.

The 'Iron Man 3' star Downey, gushed about his "pretty" pregnant wife, who "literally is about to pop," while accepting the Stanley Kubrick Britannia Award for Excellence in Film at the BAFTA Los Angeles Jaguar Britannia Awards in the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Thursday night (30.10.14).

During his speech, the 49-year-old actor proudly urged his wife to stand up so everyone could see her baby bump and said: "How is she so darn pretty and functional and mood stable."

The heartthrob, who already has son Exton, two, with Susan, also poked fun at how tough her pregnancy has been on him, according to E! News.

He joked: "This pregnancy has been extraordinarily tough for me - self prescribed mandatory bed rest. There's some benefit, at least my milk is finally coming in."

He added: "Mrs. Downey, if any day now you're in the throws of birthing and you need to yell at me, scratch me, scratch my face or blame me, that's fine because, yes, I did that to you."

The couple are set to welcome a baby girl into the world next month.

Emma Watson, Julia Louis Dreyfus, Mark Ruffalo and Dame Judi Dench were also honoured at the awards ceremony.
