Robert De Niro is proud to keep his father's artwork on show.
Robert De Niro will never change the menus in his restaurant The Grill because they were designed by his late father.
Actor Robert De Niro was surprised when his late dad Robert De Niro Sr. an abstract artist who died in 1993 - agreed to showcase his paintings in his restaurants and hotels, and also designed menus for one of his eateries, Tribeca Grill in New York, because he expected the "particular" painter to refuse his request.
The 'Silver Linings Playbook' star - who has been working on a documentary about his father, 'Remembering the Artist, Robert De Niro, Sr.' - says the works will be a lasting tribute to his dad, and he will never remove them from his businesses.
He said: "I wanted to show my father's work, for it to be seen as it should be, and I have these restaurants, a hotel, I have these places where I could put it, not all of them but some of them.
"I asked him to do the menus for the Grill and I didn't think he'd want to because he's very particular, I asked if he'd put some paintings up and he did, he hung them himself.
"I was surprised to hear he'd come every week with or two his friends and sit in the booths in the back and how proud he was of what was there. I was happy to hear that, especially after his passing away, because the menus are the same, I would never change that."
The 70-year-old actor is pleased to have always had the support of his father and knows his dad was "very proud" of all his achievements.
Speaking on 'The Daily Show', he said: "He was proud of me of course, he might have felt from time to time that he wished he had that success but he was always a very loving father, very proud, and that's just what he was."
