The 'This Morning' presenter went under the knife yesterday morning (04.02.16) following half-a-decade of excruciating pain and, although the surgery went "well", his wife Ruth Langsford was concerned something had gone wrong when he didn't come out of theatre when expected.

Speaking on the brunch show this morning (05.02.16), the blonde beauty said: "It [the surgery] went very well... it happened yesterday morning at 8am. It took a little bit longer than we thought which was a bit scary."

And, although it's only been a matter of hours since the operation, Ruth, 55, has admitted she has already seen a huge improvement in Eamonn's mobility.

She said: "I've seen him, and he was away with the fairies when he came back of course saying 'ooooh, hello darling!' ...and he actually lifted his legs which he hasn't been able to do for years! Already. It was amazing."

The Irish anchor was riddled wife nerves prior to the surgery but felt it was necessary after putting it off for years.

Ruth explained: "His face was very scared when he went in... it's a big thing, he's had a double hip operation and to have them done at the same time, it's a big operation."

Meanwhile, Eamonn is expected to return to the 'This Morning' sofa in 10 weeks' time but, in the meantime, is being replaced by Ben Shephard while he recuperates.
