The 51-year-old actress is set to take to the stage in September as burlesque icon Gypsy Rose Lee in a new play titled 'Britten In Brooklyn', but after three months of sales, only 80 people of a possible 324 have snapped up a ticket for the opening night.

A source told The Sun newspaper: "Producers thought Sadie would be a big enough name but there hasn't been much reaction."

The actress - who was has been married to actor Jude Law and pop star Gary Kemp - hasn't appeared on stage for a few years, but with an address book that includes names like Kate Moss and Nick Grimshaw, it's surprising that she's struggling to fill the seats.

However, the mother-of-four seemed in high spirits when she discussed the play, saying she thought the script was "beautiful".

She said previously: "The script got sent to me, and I thought it was just so beautifully written.

"There's such diverse range of characters and you all get them vying for attention and challenging each other in their relationships.

"It's also very apt because it's all about the propaganda just before the Second World War, about borders and whether to let people in or look after yourself and your own."

The news of low ticket sales for the play comes after Sadie revealed that the venue is an integral part of bringing the story to life, so there's no chance of switching to a smaller venue.

She said: "I am thrilled that the premiere of Zoe [Lewis]'s brilliant play is to be staged in Wilton's Music Hall. It was always our first choice of venue and the stunningly restored theatre with its beautiful, faded bohemian elegance will form an integral part of the production."
