The 23-year-old singer has been heavily linked with the coveted role for the new movie 'Spectre', but he has insisted he's not been offered the chance.

He said: "It's definitely not me. People seem to think i'm doing it but i have no idea what's going on."

However, Sam admitted he'd relish the opportunity to record the iconic theme and thereby follow in the footsteps of fellow Brit Adele, whose 'Skyfall' recording won the Best Original Song prize at the Academy Awards in 2013.

He shared: "I'd love to do it. It'd be a dream to do."

But the 'Stay With Me' hitmaker thinks the honour will ultimately be handed to Ellie Goulding, saying he's heard rumours that she's been lined up for the part.

He told Capital FM: "I heard Ellie Goulding was going to do it, it's definitely not me."

Another British star linked to the role is former Oasis rocker Noel Gallagher, who's previously admitted he'd write a James Bond movie theme "in a heartbeat".

He said: "I would do it if I was asked. I would do it in a heartbeat.

"And I could do it and it would be great, but I'm not a star and for that you have to be a big star. You have to be someone in America."
