Scarlett Johansson named her daughter after her maternal grandmother.

The 29-year-old actress and her fiancé, Romain Dauriac, recently welcomed their first child, Rose Dorothy, into the world and chose her middle name in honour of the 'Vicky Cristina Barcelona' star's New York-based grandmother, Dorothy Sloan, whom she called "the first Francophone in my family" while accepting her honorary César film award in Paris last February.

She also said at the time: "She is in many ways half of who I and half of who I long to be."

Dorothy previously revealed the duo have always had a very close bond, saying: "I spent a lot of time with Scarlett when she was younger. People would ask her, 'Who's your best friend?' And she would say, 'Grandma!' "

A source also assured UsMagazine.com that their tot wasn't named after two of the main characters from 'The Golden Girls,' Rose Nylund, played by Betty White, and Dorothy Petrillo, played by the late Bea Arthur, insisting it is merely a coincidence.

A spokesperson for the actress, 29, previously revealed the blonde beauty is adjusting to motherhood, saying: "Mother and baby are doing well."

The 'Chef' actress, who got engaged to the French journalist in September 2013, previously revealed she was keen to start a family.

She said at the time: "I would like to have my own family, that would be nice.

"They say it's never the right time and I am sure that's true, but I think you have to plan it like anything else.

"At some point it is something I look forward to."
