The 'Cruel Intentions' actress will portray the 'Keeping Up With The Kardashians' star in 'American Crime Story: The People V OJ Simpson', a new series about the murder trial of O. J. Simpson, who was defended by Kris' late husband Robert Kardashian between 1994 and 1995, after he was accused of killing his ex-wife Nicole Brown and Ronald Goldman.

According to E! Online, it is not yet known how much Kris, 59 - who was also good friends with Nicole - will feature in the series which is due to air in 2016 and has begun filming in Los Angeles.

The FX show will also star David Schwimmer in the role of Robert Kardashian, who passed away from oesophageal cancer in 2003, and had four children, Kim Kardashian West, 34, and Kourtney, 36, Khloe, 30 and Rob Kardashian 28, with the reality TV star.

The family were reportedly shocked when they discovered David, 48 - who is best known for his portrayal of Ross Gellar on 'Friends' - was to play their late father.

A source told HollywoodLife.com: "The first thing said within the family was, 'Ross can't play our dad!' Kim, Khloe, Kourtney and Rob Kardashian knew before the announcement that David was cast and even though they like him, the family is still baffled at the casting choice and think their dad deserves better."

The event series - which is being produced by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk, the duo behind 'American Horror Story' and 'Glee - will also star John Travolta as lawyer Robert Shapiro, who was part of Simpson's defence team, while Cuba Gooding Jr will play Simpson himself.

Sarah Paulson will play lead prosecutor Marcia Clark and Courtney B. Vance will play another of Simpson's defence lawyers, Johnnie Cochran.
