The 'Thinking Out Loud' hitmaker has revealed he's in talks to appear in the HBO fantasy series after missing out on the chance to be an extra three years ago because it clashed with his tour.

He said: "There were talks ages ago of me being an extra, which could have been cool. But every time they shoot it's the time I tour in the UK.

"But I've got that time off this year, so I'm going to hound them."

The self-confessed GoT geek would not be the first music star to appear on the show as Coldplay drummer Will Champion and Snow Patrol frontman Gary Lightbody each had a cameo in 2013.

The 24-year-old star - who recently split from girlfriend Athina Andrelos - is hoping his friendships with Maisie Williams, who plays Arya Stark, and Kit Harington, who plays Jon Snow, will help him to secure a role in the hit show.

He told The Sun newspaper: "If you watch the Glastonbury footage of my gig, Maisie's on someone's shoulders the whole time."

Meanwhile, Ed recently filmed scenes for an appearance as himself in the Australian soap 'Neighbours' and has also made a cameo in the long-running children's show 'Sesame Street'.
