Stephen Fry’s fiancé’s parents are believed to be ‘over the moon’ about the engagement between Fry and their son.

Fry confirmed that he and twenty seven year old Elliot Spence have recently become engaged and looks set to tie the knot later this year.

Speaking to the Daily Mirror, Elliot’s father Robert told of their delight about the news, he said: “We are very happy. We are over the moon.”

Fry and Elliot look set to celebrate their engagement abroad later this year, but Fry revealed that they would not be following those plans until the BAFTAs are over - Fry is set to host the awards ceremony for what will be the tenth time.

Speaking to reporters outside his home in Piccadilly, central London, yesterday he said: "We are off now to celebrate our engagement. We won't be going abroad until after the BAFTAs.

"Now, we won't be giving that [a wedding date] away. And I'm sorry to say you won't be invited. It will be some time this year, as you have to give a year's notice."

The 'QI' host also confirmed the couple got engagement rings that nearly match.

He said: "They are very similar, both are made of Rhodium and are almost matching."

Stephen took to his Twitter account yesterday to thank all of his fans for their congratulatory messages.

He wrote: "Oh. It looks as though a certain cat is out of a certain bag. I'm very very happy of course but had hoped for a private wedding. Fat chance!

"Thank you all SO much for your kind congratulations. Deeply touched xxx (sic)"

The star was previously with Daniel Cohen - his partner of 14 years - until 2010, after which he dated Steven Webb, who was 27 years his junior.
