The 'Shape of My Heart' hitmaker would be up for appearing alongside James Corden for the karaoke segment and has revealed he was impressed with the presenter's voice when they sang together before.

Asked if he would star in the popular segment, he told BANG Showbiz: "Yes I think I would, he's a pretty good singer actually James. I've sang with him before but not in a car. We'll see."

And the 65-year-old singer is hoping to surprise his fans with new album '57th & 9th'.

He added: "My job is to surprise people. When I listen to music, I want to be surprised. When I compose music, I want to surprise people. When I choose music I want to present for a new album, I want to be surprised, so I think I may have done this.

"Music is an endless ocean you can swim in forever with no bottom and no edge so I'm still learning."

However, Sting - real name Gordon Sumner - can't decide on one particular song from the album which is his favourite as he feels all the tracks connect somehow.

He said: "I don't have a favourite song, it's all one song to me."

Meanwhile, Sting previously revealed penning a song inspired by David Bowie - who tragically died in January - made him think about his own mortality.

He said: "I think all of us when we lose our cultural icon are affected in a profound way, there's a child in us who thinks they're immortal and of course so I wrote a song about my reaction to it I think you develop philosophy in the face of death. I'm 65 so I've lived most of my life already, I'm already pretty philosophical."
