The 49-year-old actor was thrilled to play Dothraki warrior Khal Forzho in season six of the hit HBO fantasy drama series because he had been waiting so long to land a part on the popular show.

He said: "I've always wanted to be in it.

"I read for the first three seasons and originally for the part of Khal Drogo (who was played by Jason Momoa) but it just never worked out.

"It got to the point where I said, 'Just tell them I'll do it for free.'

"In the end, my agent made me stop at the casting director's house as it was on the way to the airport when I was going to Ibiza. I read some bits in Dothraki and suddenly I had the job."

But Tamar found the native tongue of his character tricky to get to grips with, and was very impressed by Emilia Clarke, who plays Mother of Dragons Daenerys Targaryen, and her apparent ease with the dialect.

He said: "It was a tough gig. Learning that Dothraki language was nigh-on impossible. Emilia does it brilliantly.

"I said to her, 'How do you do it?' and she said, 'Babe, I'm six years in. It does get easier.'"

Tamar enjoyed all his scenes working alongside the British beauty, whom he dubbed as "so much fun".

He said: "She's beautiful and so much fun. She kept us all entertained on the set.

"There would be 10 guys all around her, but she'd be holding court and have us all lapping up her every word."

Though Khal Forzho was seemingly killed off in a fire, his death was never seen on screen so Tamar would be delighted if it was later revealed his character had escaped.

He told OK! Magazine: "I don't know [if I could return] but I'd go back in a heartbeat."
