Tina Fey says she can only work together with Amy Poehler in "short spurts" because they're both alpha-females.

The 'Mean Girls' star is known for her close friendship with the 44-year-old actress and although they are a formidable "comedy team", Tina doesn't think it could work for a whole television series.

Speaking at the Tribeca Film Festival, she said: "We're regarded as comedy team, which is totally fine by me. People sometimes used to say, 'Why don't you guys do a series together?' or whatever.

"And the funny thing is that I think we both know this to be true, it's because we're actually both alphas. So, it works in short spurts, but I don't know if it would make a real dynasty."

Meanwhile, Amy previously described her friendship with Tina, 45, as "like sisters".

She shared: "We feel like sisters. We've known each other for over 20 years now and a lot about being a family is having those experiences and remembering someone from when you're trying to figure out who you're supposed to be. Tina and I met each other in Chicago in the mid-Nineties when we were on the path where we weren't quite sure what we were going to be."
