The 47-year-old actor - who has son Trey, 23, from a previous marriage, and Jaden 18, and Willow, 15, with wife Jada Pinkett Smith - has no idea why the upcoming Warner Bros. and DC Comics anti-hero movie about a mercenary team of super villains has "captured something" with his offspring, but he is grateful it's given him some power in his household.

Speaking at the San Diego Comic-Con, he said: "This is the type of thing that, no matter how cool you think you are, your kids think you suck.

"This is like the first time where like I'm cool for real. The Suicide Squad, I don't know what it is, but something about this idea and something about this cast has really captured something."

He jokingly added: "So my kids are doing what I say, at least for the next couple of months."

During the panel discussion, Will - who portrays Deadshot - praised Jared Leto, who plays the Joker, for "kicking everybody to another level" with his preparations, including sending a live rat to Margot Robbie, who plays his love interest Harley Quinn.

Will said: "Jared was really the first person that like really kicked it into another gear.

"So we were rehearsing. He was working separate, so the Joker was working separate. So one day there's a knock on the door, and this guy walks in, this tough looking guy walks in, he says, 'I've got a message from Mr. J.' "

Will admitted he initially freaked out and called for security, but then added: "He puts a box down on the table in front of Margot. He says, 'That's a gift from Mr. J, in honour of your relationship.' I was like, 'Oh Mr. J, OK, OK.' So Margot starts to open the box, and there was a note [and a live rat], and it was from 'the Joker.'

"Listen, listen, I was playing Deadshot, but if I had had pearls on, I would have clutched them.

"So for the whole movie, that's the kind of stuff Jared was doing. He really kicked everybody into another level."
