Ashley Tisdale

Teen queen Sharpay Evans, who stole the show in High School Musical, is back in an all new tale of glitter, glamour and girl power as Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure hits shops on June 27 2011.

We had five minutes with Ashley Tisdale to chat about the new movie.

Tell us about Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure

Sharpay is my character from High School Musical and the story takes place after she graduates and heads to New York City to fulfil her dream to be on Broadway.

How does it feel having your own Sharpay movie?

It’s been such fun, so exciting. I loved it. You know, I was so surprised by the success of the first movie and hadn’t thought we’d get to do a second one and then a third, so getting to do a Sharpay movie after that was really cool. It was definitely a challenge.

In way what?

Taking a character that everybody loved to hate in the High School Musical series, then making her the lead where you want people to fall in love with her and root for her.

You try to keep the same character everyone knows but also have her grow and evolve. When she gets to New York she faces all these new challenges and realises she’s probably going about things in the wrong way.

What were the highlights of filming in New York?

Actually we filmed it in Toronto. They did a good job of making it look like New York. We had police cars that were NYPD and taxicabs that had the New York labels on them rather than Toronto cars and taxis.

Are you more of an LA or New York girl?

I’m definitely an LA girl. Even though I lived in New Jersey and New York City I never really felt like I fit in.

In terms of clothing and fashion I was really out-there, in bright colours and stuff, and in New York they’re more, I guess you’d say, Banana Republic.

In LA everybody has a kind of funky personality and I feel I belong there.

How is it working with a pet pooch?

There are two dogs who play Boi in the movie and they’re animals so they don’t really know what’s going on. You have to have a lot of patience but they’re really well trained.

Do you have pets yourself?

I have a dog called Maui. I’m a big fan of Hawaii and I was going through a list of Hawaiian names but they’re all so long except Maui, plus it’s a really great name for a dog.

It rolls off the tongue.

Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure is available on Disney DVD from June 27th
