He’s the Frank Sinatra of our decade, some might say. With Style, Sophistication and elegance under his belt, Patrizio Buanne is oozing with old-school style and romance. He could very well be the 21st century crooner we’ve all been waiting for. He’s sung in front of the Pope, played Elvis on stage and covered Robbie William’s biggest hit. All that and he’s still only 26. First's Liz Frost spoke to the clean cut crooner about love, romance and why he would like to work for FemaeFirst plus a whole lot more-
What have you been doing today
The album has been released so I’ve been to the shops to see it there!
So when did you realise you wanted to sing
Difficult question. I never thought about it, I never realised it, I just enjoyed doing it! When I was a child, when my parents were recording songs for the restaurant, I sang along, then you get braver and braver and people would say "Hey, you’ve got a great voice!". Then as a teenager, you make your first performance, first standing ovation. From A to B, B to C all the way through, you build up courage and get braver and that’s when you realise there’s something behind it.
Who’s your Favourite Crooner
I really like Tony Bennett, I like Elvis Presley-
You played Elvis once didn’t you
Yeah, not that I was impersonating Elvis. At that time there were no karaoke competitions. I read about Elvis impersonator competitions and I had done that and it was funny because all I knew was how to shake my leg and go "Uh huh huh". I was never one of those people who was like "Elvis lives inside me" "I’m the new Elvis" etc. That’s scary, like Oh my God! I think Elvis is having a laugh at that.
You always look so smart, do you ever rough it in jeans and a Tshirt
I’m lying on the bed right now in Jeans and a very normal polo shirt. Actually when I do my concerts I wear my suit, because it’s part of the performance and people buy tickets for the show, they see the orchestra on the stage. I can’t come out in jeans. But I do wear jeans and if I do, it wouldn’t be jeans I wear on the street when I’m having a walk. They’d be jeans I’m wearing for work, not for private. Like wearing a uniform. I’m on the Sharon Osborne show soon wearing jeans. Watch that and you can see me in jeans! I love wearing nice clothes. You don’t have to wear a suit to be elegant. This was my first album, I was coming from the land of Fashion, Italy, I didn’t want to look like any other rock star.
You have said "I am the ambassador of Italian romance and dolce vita" What’s your definition of true romance
Romance is a lifestyle. It’s not just about putting a candle on the table and being cheesy. It’s about living in harmony with your friends with your people, with your family. Making each moment passionate. I think romance is the opposite of ignorance. It’s being aware of everything that’s happening in life. If you’re spending time with somebody you really like, just make it really intense, not just go to bed and have a one night stand.

Don’t you like one night stands:
I like the attraction, seeing someone and thinking "ooh mama mia!" but on the other side it’s nice to have a flirty chat on the phone. For me it’s not just going to bed and having sex. For me it’s about the touch, the looks, the chemistry, the kiss. If I can’t kiss a partner, then I couldn’t sleep with them. For me it starts with a kiss. It starts with a kiss, it starts with the contact. When I was 17 18 of course I had dalliances here and there, but you feel bad afterwards. You wake up and you don’t want to see the person next to you anymore.

What’s the most romantic thing you’ve ever done for a lady
You’d have to ask the lady!

I had a girlfriend who was always crying, I just bought her a chain of pearls which symbolised tears. I said to her "I’m giving you this chain of pearls that symbolise tears. Every tear you ever cried for me I’m giving it back to you. The thing is, that made her cry.

Do you like English girls
I like to be in the company of women a lot, The good thing about English girls is that they can be really sexy and female and on the other hand they can go to the pub with you and have a lager. Italian girls aren’t like that. English girls are very spontaneous. They can be very naughty girls. I love English girls.

You must have women throwing themselves at you, how do you keep yourself grounded
I’m not grounded! I’m flattered! It’s really nice. You know what, I’m a normal guy. For me singing is as normal as going to work is for others. I don’t look at girls that throw their knickers at me as serious because I look at them as ironic because that doesn’t turn me on at all. I like mysterious girls, who I can conquer. It needs to have a happy ending though. I like a little bit of flirting and a challenge.
What’s been the highlight of your career
Talking to you! No, seriously, the highlight of my career. Receiving those golden records, travelling the world. I met Tom Jones, Tony Bennett, Gwen Stefani. Robbie Williams allowed me to make a cover of Angels. Initially his manager said no, but Robbie said he remembered me and said he was a fan. You could really say Robbie likes my music. He’s a nice bloke, I like him, I think his songs are great. I really like She’s the one and Angels. So the Italian guy dared to go to the Abbey Road studios with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and record Robbie’s biggest hit. People will either hate me for that or love me for it.

Who’s your hero
My Father was my hero. He was the perfect gentleman, he was a lovely man, he died 10 years ago and I miss him a lot. It hurts, especially when you want to share success.

Musically-I’d like to be someone who’s around for the next 60 years like Sinatra. I want you to call me in 10 years and have a laugh about things.

If you could have certainties in life, what would they be

Establish my name, my career,
Be healthy and
Have a beautiful family. Healthy kids, a lovely woman, a good life.

Who’s your ideal woman
Who has a lot of patience and tolerance. Who has her own passion and her own life rather than someone who is sitting at home waiting for me to come home. I don’t care if she’s blonde, dark, black or Chinese, if she has the values to make my life better, I don’t mind.

I like curvy women though. When I was a teenager, I was collecting pictures of women I liked and they were all so different that my friend said he couldn’t work out what kind of woman I liked.

If you weren’t a singer, what would you be
Working for Female First! though I studied languages so I would probably end up translating letters in an Embassy somewhere.

Having swept us off our feet with his charm and personality and declared his intention to work for FemaleFirst Patrizio left to return to the studio.
