Ruby Gettinger has hit crisis point her excessive eating has caused her weight to spiral out of control, lost her the love of her life, and the battle to shed the pounds has now become a matter of life and death.

Coming to the Style Network Ruby is an inspiring and heart felt portrayal of an extraordinary woman’s emotional quest to lose weight, help others, and ultimately change her life forever.

I caught up with Ruby to talk about the reasons she went on this journey, the difficulties that she faced and what lies ahead.

TV show Ruby follows you on a very personal journey to lose weight so how did the show come about?

My friend Brittany Daniel talked to a producer friend that works in reality TV who got in touch with The Style Network. The Style Network liked my idea and contacted me about doing a series.

I was so pleased that The Style Network wanted to follow me on my weight loss journey, as well as let me share with their viewers my passions which are God and people.

As I say it's a very personal thing battling our demons so why did you decide to let the cameras into your life?

I saw an episode of Oprah about a group of severely obese women and their struggles. These women spoke about how they were afraid to leave their homes because of the way society judged them. It broke my heart, because no matter what size I am, I refuse to allow people to stop me from living and enjoying my life.

We are a nation that is facing an obesity epidemic and I decided I wanted to find out why so many of us are suffering. I decided to be the "guinea pig" to see if it is possible to be at the most 700 pounds and lose all the weight you want and still look normal.

I want to find out why we are overweight and what actually works. Perhaps by sharing my personal weight-loss journey on television, I can help others confront the truth and lies behind obesity. And if I can do it, then I know anyone can conquer "the beast!"

How easy/difficult was it having them there? Were there times when you just wanted them to go away?

It was strange having a camera around all the time. At first, it was difficult being vulnerable and exposing my private feelings and emotions in front of strangers, but it didn't take long to know I was blessed to have a crew who believes in me and sees my vision. I'll never look at TV the same way again!

The long hours and amount of work the crew does is very eye-opening. It is amazing the amount of work and time that goes into a TV show. Blood, sweat and tears have gone into Ruby, and everyone involved is passionate about telling my true story in hopes of helping others begin their own weight-loss journey.

Your weight peaked at 715 pounds in 1995 so what were the contributing factors to you getting to this weight?

It’s so weird, I’ve said this before. I had clothes made for me. I hadn’t weighed myself, I hadn’t gone to the doctor. I was gaining weight and I had these big pants and shirt that I had made for me, so I was growing into them and I didn’t even realize it.
