The X Factor - Interview with Matt Stevens

30-05-2006 14:59

Why did you want to take part in the series?
I think it could be fun. It’s a challenge for someone who isn’t usually a perfomer of this nature. It’s good to be out of the comfort zone and I see it as a great challenge. The fact that we can make money for our chosen charities whilst having fun – makes it all worth it.

How has the vocal training going?
It’s been really fun. Completely different to what I’m used to. The guys have been really professional but make the sessions enjoyable. The difference between both vocal teachers is is vast – one rock and one opera so it’s been a great insight into the music industry.

Which of the judges are you most nervous facing?
All of them!

Which judge would you like to be your mentor?
Simon Cowell – it would be quite interesting to see what he’s like off camera.

Are you terrified about singing live?
I’m terrified of it, but at same time exhilarated by the idea.

How will you react to the judges if they give you negative comments?
It’s important not to take it too seriously. I’m not a musician - I’m a rugby player. I’m here to have fun but want to do well, so that my chosen charity makes some money.

What past singing experience have you got?
I went to a really good choir school and we won the Gold at the Choir Olympics in Vienna.
