i think what she said about celebrity status is interesting. it must be incredibly surreal to be followed by photographers, see photos of yourself everywhere and have strangers constantly criticizing you. i've never thought about it this way, but it makes sense that in her personal life she would shy away from being a celebrity.

the celebrity status of the olsen twins has always been really bizarre. they're not like adult actors or even like regular child actors. they were thrust into that lifestyle as babies and they were kept in that lifestyle so long that by the time they reached adolescence, it was too late for them to have anything remotely close to a "normal" life. they were never given the opportunity to have a normal childhood or an anonymous life.

on the upside, they never seem to complain about the things they missed out on, they both seem to be very healthy and well-adjusted adults, and they're both very intelligent businesswomen. so what if they've built an empire on cheesy entertainment and cheap, tacky clothes & accessories. so what if mary-kate has a funky, unpopular sense of style. everyone waited for years, half hoping that these girls would grow up to be alcoholic, drug-addicted, abusive train wrecks. i think it's great that they're both strong enough that neither one of them has gone down that path.
