I was born in 1946 and lived off home cooking with fresh foods. I survived all childhood illnesses but was fortunate enough not to have meningitis or polio. I know these horrific diseases leave children physically disabled but did the majority in the 1950's survive and if so did they suffer facial disfigurement. I had a friend who contacted polio and lived in an iron lung for a long time before passing.
