Back to: Classic Cuts: My Chemical Romance - The Black Parade (2006)

Actually, i thought Gerard Way WAS suffering from cancer, soon after they released the 'Black Parade' album. As the lyrics to the song 'Cancer' made me think he was writing it from his own experience with cancer. It turned out he's never had cancer. lol. Well at least i know now. The 'Cancer' song reminds me of 'Imagine' by John Lennon. The piano chords do. I, too, am surprised that this song in particular is never given enough credit for being such a beautiful ballad. I could say the same for Nick Cave's 'Death is not the end' ballad, or Jessica Simpson's 'Your faith in me'. Maybe some just see it as cheesy, and that's that. I honestly don't know. The concept itself deserves credit. The whole thing. The Black Parade uniform is ace. I'd be hard-pressed to find anyone with a similar imagination to Gerard Way's. Or Billie Jo Armstrong, for that matter. He did great to, with the 'American Idiot' and '21st Century Breakdown' concepts. These concepts are pretty good. Despite bad press.
